Keeping the Farm Thriving For All

by | Sep 8, 2025 | Farm Support

Dear Friends of The Farm

Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for our mission: Preserving a working farm that provides enriching educational experiences, fosters community connection, and cultivates a shared appreciation for New

Hampshire’s agricultural heritage.

Everyday at The Farm is different: sheep moving to new pastures, maple leaves turning gold, the fields are freshly mowed, campers discovering farm life or families unwinding at seasonal events. The Farm is a haven- a place to reconnect with nature and with each other. It’s a space that belongs to everyone, but it takes the support of many to keep it thriving.

This year, we’d like to share the story of one special resident: Curly the Sheep.

Last summer, Deerfield Veterinary reached out about an Icelandic Sheep who had an infection that caused him to go blind.

In his previous home, he faced constant bullying from his flock, and without a safe place to go, euthanasia was being considered.

We welcomed Curly on a trial basis. At first, the other sheep in his enclosure (Anthony, Arabella and Belichik) kept their distance, but curiosity slowly brought them closer. Curly slowly learned the shapes and sounds of the farm despite his limited eyesight and became a permanent resident of the farm.

Today, Curly is one of the first animals that we introduce our young visitors to. His calm nature allows children to approach at their own pace, feel the softness of his wool, and the curves of his horns. His eyes have since healed and he is now partially sighted and his twice yearly shearings have produced beautiful yarn that we have used to produce a few special items.

While Curly’s arrival came from a unique circumstance, his role now reflects our core values at the farm:

We put Community First, welcoming visitors of all ages to gather, learn, and share The Farm’s mission. We work to Preserve and Protect this land and its resources so future generations can enjoy and learn from it. We invite everyone to Learn by Doing, creating hands-on experiences that deepen understanding of agriculture. And we strive to Grow Together, adapting, improving, and strengthening our programs to expand The Farm’s positive impact.

Your Gift helps us live out these values-caring for our beloved animal ambassadors-despite their challenges and history, maintaining the fields and barns, offering interactive learning opportunities, and keeping The Farm open and free to the public every day of the year.

Every dollar matters. Every gift makes a difference.Together, we can ensure that The Farm remains a place of connection, learning and community for years to come.
