Joppa Hill Educational Farm Internship program offers several opportunities for interested candidates to gain experience in agriculture, horticulture, education, marketing, and communications. Interns will be placed in a respective department based on interest, experience, and need. Responsibilities vary, but all interns will be expected to do the responsbilities listed below.

Reports to: Executive Director

Participate in all aspects of the farm programming that aligns with the mission of the farm including educational programs, animal care, high tunnel cut flower growing, farmstand sales, and marketing

Enthusiastically interact with our visitors on a daily basis

Assist in events at the farm

Work with the Operations Manager on adherence to policies and procedures

Handle emergency situations in conjunction with Executive Director

Collaborate with farm staff and volunteers on various projects as needed
-
Advance the mission through a variety of educational endeavors on and off the farm campus

Assist with emergency animal care and farm needs
Animal Care:
-
Participate in the daily care of all farm animals. Assist in feeding, grooming, health maintenance, hoof trimming, etc. Work with volunteers, campers and staff on daily schedules for animal care; maintain animal paddocks by cleaning out manure, old hay and bedding; perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on farm structures, equipment, and facilities, including fencing, gates, and tools; maintain cleanliness throughout the farm premises; assist with general maintenance tasks, such as painting, cleaning, and organizing farm areas.
Educational Programs:

Lead school field trips and summer camp programs to ages 5-8 yo and 9-12 yo in collaboration with education staff; teach school field trips lessons provided that relate to agricultural education and environmental education; participate in camp duties such as check in-check out of campers; leading hikes, campfires, and special programming for summer campers; support the Operations Manager in summer camp operations; provide support to other educational programs on the farm including horticultural classes, nature walks, and more.
Horticulture:

Assist in planning cut flower production in the high tunnel; plan raised bed vegetable production; seed, grow, and maintain the plantings in the high tunnel; grow and care for vegetables in raised beds; support community garden program; design and assemble bouquets for sale at the farmstand; maintain gardens and plantings around the farm; lead educational programming for pre-k students and summer campers
Events and Marketing:

Acquire and organize images and videos from all the programs at the farm to enhance our social media presence; assist in content creation and management for our marketing; attend events to spread the word of our mission; assist the events coordinator on events at the farm; write weekly blogs, monthly newsletters and plan out future social media posts.

Seeking Bachelor’s degree
